About me

Who am I?

My name is Chris Collins, and I was born on 19th March 1977.

Im soon to be a graduate (2003) from Sheffield Hallam University in Bsc (Hons) Computing and Management Sciences.

I'm a keen martial artist, and have studied predominantly Chinese and Japanese arts, although have also dabbled in Filipino martial arts (escrima and kali).

I was born in Birmingham, and at the age of 7 took up Judo. At 11 years old, I started to compete and represented the 'C Company' Army Cadet Force in Judo, and scored a bronze medal in the regional finals. My main teacher at the time was Phil Brown, though had studied under Chris Bowles (at one time representing the UK in the olympics for judo).

Later I took up ronin yudansha ryu ju jitsu, and practiced this for approximately 2 years.

At 17 years old, I also began training in the sport of Kendo, under Derek Raybold (who in turn is tought by Faye Goodman).

At 20 I moved to Sheffield, whereby I began training in Yang style Taiji Quan, and Feng Shou Kung Fu, as part of Qi Academy. Since 2001 I have been an assistant instructor and teaching both the kung fu and taiji quan for Qi Academy. My teacher is Reza Hezaveh.

In June of 2002, I began training in Ba Gua Zhang, under Rob Turtle.

In November of 2002, I began training in Hebei style Xing Yi Quan, under Damon Smith, of the Kaido Miwa Ryu Yokiyusan Kenpo association.

Additionally to martial arts, I have also been a sponsored cyclist for Scott's Cycles of Birmingham, whereby I took part in the Diamond Back mountain bike series, and also the National Points Series. My best achievement was in a time trial, where by I managed 25 miles in 54 minutes.

Whilst in the Army Cadet Force, I had represented them on several occasions for swimming, and had represented them twice in the National swimming championships, and won numerous medals (too many to mention here!).

Im happily engaged to a beautiful fiancee, Lindsay, and we hope to get married very soon.
